Philly Service Bucks (PSBs) System Overview
The Philly Service Exchange operates using a unique currency called Philly Service Bucks (PSBs), designed to incentivize teens to participate in community service while earning valuable career development opportunities. Below is an outline of how the PSB system works, including how hours are converted into PSBs and how members can use their earned PSBs.
Earning Philly Service Bucks:
- Community Service Hours Conversion:
- For every hour of community service completed by a member, they will earn one Philly Service Buck (PSB).
- Two hours of service equals two PSBs, three hours equals three PSBs, and so on.
- Verification Process:
- Upon completing community service, members will fill out a form provided by the Philly Service Exchange. The form must be signed by the community service organization to verify the number of hours completed.
- Members will then upload the completed form to the Philly Service Exchange website. Hours will be reviewed and verified by our team, and the appropriate number of PSBs will be credited to the member’s account.
- Tracking and Tallying Hours:
- Each member will have an online account where their total service hours and PSBs will be tracked.
- Members can log into the platform at any time to see their available PSBs, which will be updated as new community service hours are added.
Using Philly Service Bucks
- Access to Career Development Opportunities:
- Members can exchange their PSBs for various mentorship and career development opportunities listed on the Philly Service Exchange platform. These opportunities may include:
- Shadowing professionals in different industries.
- One-on-one mentorship sessions.
- Career counseling.
- Internships.
- Opportunity Pricing:
- Different opportunities will have different PSB “price points” based on the time commitment or value of the experience. For example:
- A full day shadowing a lawyer might cost 50 PSBs (equivalent to 50 hours of community service).
- A one-hour virtual meeting with a local veterinarian could cost 10 PSBs (equivalent to 10 hours of community service).
- Purchasing Process:
- Once members have accumulated enough PSBs to “purchase” an opportunity of interest, they can use the website to claim the opportunity.
- Opportunities will be categorized by field (e.g., law, healthcare, education) and by the number of PSBs required to redeem them.
